Rail Rider Extraordinaire

We had a wonderful time today at the Orange Empire Railway Museum, taking photos of a gorgeous high school senior named Suzanne. She was so much fun, and willing to climb up and over and in everything we threw at her. The staff at OERM was great - showing us beautiful old train cars and helping out when a nasty wasp got into Suzanne's boot about 10 seconds after this shot was taken (thanks Brian!).

We'll post a storyboard with more pics later this week, but just had to put up one tonight. I used a tilt-shift lens for this shot, which gives a plane of focus that I just love. I think it puts the emphasis right where it belongs - on Suzanne's smile.

  1. Wow!! What a shot! I can't thank you and Mac enough for your patience and creativity. This is EXACTLY why we wanted you to shoot Suzanne's senior photos. When I saw the work you were doing, and the beauty that you were drawing from my precious daughter, I had to fight back the tears of pride and joy. I know that may sound a little over the top, but this is my baby of 3, and I couldn't be more proud of this girl! Being a parent is not the easiest job in the world, but the rewards are beyond the bumps. I LOVED what Diane said . . "We want to capture the character, the spirit of youth. We want to tell the Suzanne's story" It was her smile, her clothes, grandma's rings . . . all the memories all wrapped up in a single shot. I would not have trusted anyone with pictures. Mac and Diane, your love and passion for photography shine through your work. Thank you for a most amazing shoot!
